Currants
There are white, red and black varieties of currant which differ greatly in terms of flavour and aroma. White currants are mild and sweet. Red currants taste refreshingly sour. Black currants on the other hand have a tart, sour, sometimes even bitter flavour.

Cultivation & harvest
Autumn is the optimal time for planting currants. Sunny and sheltered from the wind sites and loose soil favor successful harvest.
Use
All types are suitable for eating fresh. The red and black varieties are particularly good for using in desserts and cakes and are key ingredients in the well-known summer pudding.
Storage
Currants keep for two to three days when refrigerated. However, as they are very delicate they are best eaten as quickly as possible.
