Cultivation & harvest
Broad beans thrive optimally on heavy, moist soils in a location that is as protected from the wind as possible. High humidity and plenty of rain are further conditions for the growth of the beans. The harvest time achieves availability from May to August.
Use
The flat, irregularly shaped seeds can be used in many ways in the kitchen, while the shell of the beans is not suitable for consumption. Generally, the younger and smaller the seeds are, the tastier they are. Classically, broad beans are prepared with bacon as a side dish. In addition, broad beans can also be made into soups, purees or stews.
Storage
Fresh, unhulled broad beans can be stored in the fridge for several days. Removed from the shell, the cores spoil within a day.
